We honour the life of George Swanson, a brilliant theologian, scientist, and wordsmith, \u00a0who <\/span>passed away<\/a> as the Great Pandemic of the 21st-century began to sweep the world.\u00a0 Many were lost.\u00a0 And many still grieve.\u00a0 In thetimes it was next to impossible to celebrate so many who like George died.<\/span><\/p>\n

Known for his boundless passion for Early Christian principles and forward-thinking vision, George\u2019s legacy is celebrated through a communal LoveFeast format he crafted with William and Helene Swanson. This gathering, inspired by a past event at Dunphy Park in Sausalito, California, invites loved ones to share a meal, stories, and blessings, reflecting George\u2019s commitment to faith, justice, and community. Join in this heartfelt remembrance to honor George and all those lost during challenging times.<\/p>\n

Feel free to follow this format crafted by George, William, and Helene,\u00a0 celebrated at the Olof’s Brothers LoveFeast<\/a> many years ago at Dunphy Park, Sausalito, California.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>THE BLESSING OF THE MEAL<\/p>\n

LEADER: How wonderful it is, how pleasant, for
\nG-d\u2019s people to live together in harmony!
\n(Ps 133)
\nWelcome to this meal, in the name of Christ. We
\ncome to share in G-d\u2019s love.<\/p>\n

PEOPLE: We come to share our food and our
\nlives.<\/p>\n

LEADER: We come to break bread together, and
\nopen ourselves to each other.<\/p>\n

PEOPLE: We come to express our faith and our
\nthanks.<\/p>\n

LEADER: May G-d bless this food and this
\nfellowship.<\/p>\n

PEOPLE: As we share our food, we give thanks
\nfor this abundance, and we remember those who
\ndo not have enough.<\/p>\n

LEADER: May G-d give food to those who are
\nhungry.<\/p>\n

PEOPLE: May G-d give us a hunger for justice,
\nand a determination to serve those who hunger
\nfor food.<\/p>\n

SETTING THE TABLE<\/p>\n

LEADER: On the table in the midst of this
\ncommunity with whom Christ is present we set
\nsymbols to remind us of his promises to us:<\/p>\n

READER 1: A candle, to remind us of the way, \u201cI
\nam the light of the world; whoever follows me
\nwill not walk in darkness but will have the
\nlight of life\u201d.<\/p>\n

READER 2: Bread, symbol to remind us of G_d\u2019s
\nlove, \u201cI am the bread of life. The bread that
\nI shall give is myself for the life of the
\nworld\u201d.<\/p>\n

All: G-d, we welcome your presence with us.
\nMay the food and companionship we share
\nNourish our bodies, hearts and minds. And may
\nour spirits be refreshed. As we live in the
\nlight of your presence. With us now, and at
\nall times and places. Amen.<\/p>\n

FOOD IS SERVED. FOLKS SHARE STORIES.<\/p>\n

(WHEN THE MEAL IS FINISHED)<\/p>\n

THE PEACE<\/p>\n

LEADER: Behold, the fragments of our feast. Our
\nmeal is ended, but G-d\u2019s banquet continues as
\nwe go from this place.<\/p>\n

PEOPLE: Let us take the banquet into the world
\nand never give up until all people are fed.<\/p>\n

LEADER: May the peace of Christ be upon you,
\nand may you be channels of peace and justice.<\/p>\n

ALL: Amen.<\/p>\n
