Many will accompany Helene de Boissiere Swanson for the final four miles of this 7,000 mile spiritual pilgrimage to the U.S. Capitol to promote the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katrinasdream.org\/era\/dc-era-blessing-walk-and-rally\/route-to-the-national-mall\/\">four-mile route<\/a> passing the White House and on to the Upper Senate Park at National Mall where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katrinasdream.org\/era\/dc-era-blessing-walk-and-rally\/rally-speakers\/\">top feminists and human rights activists<\/a> will hold a press conference, and then rally for the ERA.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.episcopalchurch.org\/page\/presiding-bishop\">Presiding Bishop and Primate Katharine Jefferts Schori<\/a> of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States of America (ECUSA) will be read at the Press Conference.<\/p>\n<p>On August 27, 2015, the day following the march and rally, ERA Action in conjunction with Katrina&#8217;s Dream are coordinating a lobbying effort to call upon senators and representative to co-sponsor\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/114th-congress\/senate-joint-resolution\/15\/text\">S.J. Res 15<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/114th-congress\/house-joint-resolution\/51\/related-bills\">H.J. Res 51<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The Equal Rights Amendment will empower women and provide protection for the LBGTQ community. Katrina Martha Van Alstyne Welles Swanson. Katrina was one of the 11 women irregularly ordained to the priesthood in 1974, becoming the U.S. Episcopal Church\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first female priests. When the ERA failed to be ratified by the necessary 38 states, Katrina began to recite the Pledge of Allegiance \u00e2\u20ac\u0153with Liberty and Justice for SOME!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d When questioned \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Why \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcsome\u00e2\u20ac\u009d? she would reply, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Because the ERA was voted down, retired women are more likely to live in poverty than men.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The 15 non-ratifying states, in the order Swanson has walked through them, are Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katrinasdream.org\">Katrina\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Dream<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0is active in working with the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katrinasdream.org\/1st-21st-century-church\/olofs-brothers-love-feast\/\">homeless<\/a>, developing\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katrinasdream.org\/1st-21st-century-church\/millenials-at-the-helm-sustainable-practices\/\">sustainable practices<\/a>,\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katrinasdream.org\/1st-21st-century-church\/prison-reform-projects\/\">prison law reform<\/a>, education in\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katrinasdream.org\/1st-21st-century-church\/vocation-vacation\/vocation-vacation-think-tank-thuto\/\">Botswana<\/a>, developing programs in\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katrinasdream.org\/1st-21st-century-church\/vocation-vacation\/india\/\">India<\/a>, and the full inclusion of women in all areas of life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00c2\u00a0Herstoric\u00c2\u00a0March on Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Equality Day will start at\u00c2\u00a0St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church in Washington D.C. following the 8 a.m. blessing of the walkers.
