{"id":110,"date":"2009-06-03T17:51:30","date_gmt":"2009-06-04T01:51:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.opinion.katrinasdream.org\/?p=110"},"modified":"2009-06-04T15:12:44","modified_gmt":"2009-06-04T23:12:44","slug":"katrinasdreamorg-booth-at-july-2009-episcopal-general-convention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.katrinasdream.org\/dreamscape\/katrinasdreamorg-booth-at-july-2009-episcopal-general-convention\/","title":{"rendered":"KatrinasDream.org Booth at July 2009 Episcopal General Convention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our Agenda at General Convention<\/p>\n<p>We will strive for justice and peace build respect for the Dignity of Every Human Being.<br \/>\n<em>Baptismal Covenant\u00e2\u20ac\u201dPrayer Book page 305<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The booth will pursue the church\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s mission: <em>to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ<\/em> and <em>promote justice<\/em> for women, prisoners, Indigenous Peoples, and students in Africa.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>The words in italics are from the first two questions about the church on page 855 in the Prayer Book.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We will promote justice for women by disseminating information from organizations such as the EgualRightsAmendmend.org.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/equalrightsamendment.org\/\">Click her for the ERA organization.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We will promote the newly formed network, Connecting Anglican Women in Theological Education (CAWTE) by handing out their brochures and bookmarks.\u00c2\u00a0 CAWTE was recognized and endorsed at the recent Anglican Consultative Council meeting in Jamaica: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anglicancommunion.org\/acns\/news.cfm\/2009\/5\/12\/ACNS4630\">Click Here for Article on CAWTE. <\/a><br \/>\nWe will promote justice for prisoners and respect for their dignity as human beings by lobbying for our resolution asking Congress to outlaw torture in all American jails and prisons.\u00c2\u00a0 Bobby Dellelo, a victim of fives years torture in solitary confinement will be at the booth to educate deputies and bishops about prison torture.\u00c2\u00a0 He will also speak at the convention\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s legislative hearing on the resolution.\u00c2\u00a0 Bobby is quoted in a March 30, 2009 New Yorker article \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Hellhole.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/reporting\/2009\/03\/30\/090330fa_fact_gawande\">Click Here for the New Yorker Article. <\/a><br \/>\nWe will promote a resolution would put the Episcopal Church on record condemning the doctrine of discovery and supporting Indigenous People\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s call for repudiation of the 1496 Royal Charter granted to John Cabot and his sons and other similar Royal Charters which sanctioned European invasion of the Western Hemisphere.<\/p>\n<p>We will promote justice for students in Africa by publicizing the work of Think Tank Thuto.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thinktankthuto.org.temp.livebooks.com\/\">Click here for Think Tank Thuto&#8217;s Web Site.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/a><br \/>\nLast summer we asked the bishops at Lambeth to welcome women and children and men, straight and gay, equally in Jesus name.\u00c2\u00a0 We will Ask General Convention to do the same.\u00c2\u00a0 We will give away pins with Katrina\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s picture and the words \u00e2\u20ac\u0153God is Beyond Gender\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that we gave to hundreds of bishops in Canterbury at the Lambeth conference last summer.\u00c2\u00a0 We will also give away the story of Katrina\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s lifelong pilgrimage into inclusiveness that we distributed at Lambeth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Agenda at General Convention We will strive for justice and peace build respect for the Dignity of Every Human Being.
