I leave on September 17, walking from sunrise to sunset, church to church, as I make the pilgrims journey to demand that the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee finally move forward and pass S.J. Res. 38, the bipartisan resolution that will remove the arbitrary deadline and affirm the Equal Rights Amendment as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Thirty-eight states have already ratified it. The constitutional threshold has been met. The only remaining barrier is Congress’s failure to act. There is no deadline on equality, and this pilgrim insists that the final step be taken without further delay.

This journey continues the long “Walk the Talk” tradition of Katrina’s Dream. The second, “A Quest for Equality,” started at the Golden Gate Bridge in 2014 and covered roughly 7,000 miles; it sparked the 21st-century ratifications in Nevada, Illinois, and Virginia that brought the ERA to the required 38 states. The third pilgrimage in 2020 continued the call for Congress to remove the arbitrary 1972 deadline (later extended to 1982). These were acts of faith and persistence that rekindled a movement others had abandoned. Now Hall to Hall: Liberty’s Flame for Equality begins at the birthplace of American liberty, walking from sunrise church to sunset church, to finish the unfinished work.
